Serving Pacific Grove, CA with Comprehensive HVAC and Sheet Metal Solutions

Pacific Grove, CA is a coastal gem nestled on the southern tip of the Monterey Peninsula, known for its Victorian architecture, butterfly sanctuary, and the rugged beauty of its shoreline. Living and working in this seaside community brings unique challenges when it comes to maintaining indoor comfort. The marine layer that drifts in from the Pacific creates a damp, cool climate that demands reliable heating systems, while the salt-laden air can accelerate wear on metal components and ductwork. That is precisely where our expertise becomes invaluable to homeowners and business owners throughout the area.

R&S Heating and Sheet Metal Inc. is a full-service provider of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning for your home or business. We have dedicated ourselves to delivering custom HVAC and sheet metal solutions tailored to the specific environmental conditions that define Pacific Grove. From historic homes near Lovers Point to modern commercial buildings along Lighthouse Avenue, we understand the importance of preserving architectural character while introducing efficient, modern climate control systems.

HVAC Installation Tailored for Coastal Conditions

Installing an HVAC system in Pacific Grove requires more than simply choosing a unit off the shelf. The proximity to the ocean means that condensers, coils, and exterior components are constantly exposed to corrosive salt air. We carefully select equipment with protective coatings and corrosion-resistant materials designed for coastal environments. Our installation process begins with a thorough load calculation that considers square footage, insulation quality, window placement, ceiling height, and the building’s exposure to coastal winds and fog.

Once we determine the appropriate system size and configuration, our technicians work meticulously to position outdoor units in locations that minimize salt exposure while maintaining proper airflow. Indoor components are sized to match the cooling and heating load precisely, preventing the short cycling that wastes energy and shortens equipment lifespan. We also factor in the unique floor plans of Pacific Grove’s older homes, where traditional ductwork installation can be challenging. Ductless mini-split systems often serve as an ideal solution for these properties, providing zoned comfort without the need for extensive remodeling.

Custom Sheet Metal Fabrication

One of the cornerstones of our business is custom sheet metal fabrication, performed in our own shop to exact specifications. Off-the-shelf ductwork rarely fits the demands of Pacific Grove’s diverse building stock, which includes everything from century-old Victorians to contemporary commercial structures. Custom fabrication allows us to create transitions, plenums, registers, and specialty fittings that integrate seamlessly with existing architecture.

Our sheet metal capabilities extend beyond residential ductwork. We fabricate commercial exhaust systems, kitchen hoods for restaurants along the waterfront, dryer vent assemblies, custom flashing for chimneys and roof penetrations, and specialty enclosures for mechanical equipment. Working with galvanized steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and copper, we match material selection to the application and environmental exposure. For coastal installations, we frequently recommend heavier gauge metals and protective finishes that resist the effects of marine humidity over decades of use.

HVAC Service and Maintenance Programs

Routine service is the single most important factor in extending the life of heating and cooling equipment, especially in coastal regions. Salt accumulation on outdoor coils restricts heat transfer, forcing systems to work harder and consume more energy. Moisture intrusion can corrode electrical contacts, degrade insulation on refrigerant lines, and promote mold growth in evaporator coils. Our service programs are structured to address these coastal-specific concerns through regular inspections and proactive maintenance.

During a typical service visit, our technicians perform a comprehensive evaluation that includes the following:

  • Coil cleaning and rinsing to remove salt deposits and restore heat transfer efficiency on both indoor and outdoor units
  • Refrigerant level verification to ensure the system operates at peak capacity without strain on the compressor
  • Electrical component inspection including capacitors, contactors, and wiring connections that may show corrosion
  • Airflow measurement and adjustment across registers and returns to confirm balanced distribution throughout the building
  • Filter replacement and ductwork inspection to identify leaks, gaps, or damaged sections that compromise efficiency
  • Thermostat calibration and control testing to verify accurate temperature sensing and proper system response

AC Installation in a Mild Climate

While Pacific Grove enjoys cooler summers than many California communities, air conditioning has become increasingly important. Climate patterns have shifted, and inland heat waves now occasionally push temperatures higher even along the coast. Additionally, many homes and businesses require cooling for specific applications, such as server rooms, wine storage, or sun-exposed spaces with large windows facing the Pacific.

Our approach to AC installation emphasizes right-sizing and efficiency. Oversized systems cool spaces too quickly without removing humidity, leading to clammy interior conditions that are uncomfortable and can promote mold growth. We perform Manual J load calculations to determine precisely how much cooling capacity each space requires. Heat pump systems are particularly well suited to Pacific Grove’s climate, providing both heating and cooling from a single unit while delivering exceptional efficiency in the moderate temperature ranges typical of the area.

Commercial HVAC Applications

Pacific Grove’s business community includes hotels, bed and breakfasts, restaurants, retail shops, professional offices, and institutional facilities, each with distinct ventilation and climate control needs. Restaurants require robust exhaust systems with makeup air to maintain proper kitchen ventilation while complying with health and safety codes. Hospitality properties depend on quiet, reliable systems that provide consistent guest comfort across multiple rooms and common areas. Retail establishments need balanced air distribution that creates a pleasant shopping environment without excessive energy consumption.

We design and install rooftop units, split systems, variable refrigerant flow systems, and packaged units for commercial applications throughout Pacific Grove. Our sheet metal shop fabricates the custom ductwork, curbs, and transitions required to integrate these systems with existing buildings, many of which were never originally designed for modern mechanical equipment.

Why Local Experience Matters

Working in Pacific Grove requires familiarity with local building codes, permit processes, and the unique conditions that affect HVAC performance along the Monterey Peninsula. Our long history serving Monterey, Pacific Grove, Carmel-By-The-Sea, Del Monte Forest, and Marina has given us deep knowledge of the regional building stock and the climate considerations that affect every project.

We take pride in the quality of our craftsmanship and the durability of our installations. When you invest in heating, cooling, or sheet metal work for your Pacific Grove property, you deserve a system designed to perform reliably for years to come, even in the demanding coastal environment that makes this community such a special place to live and work. Upon discovering a leak from my heating unit, I called R&S Heating for assistance. Immediately, owner Rich came to assess the situation and let me know my options. In the end, I needed a new forced air furnace and duct replacement. Rich and his professional team removed my old furnace and ductwork from the attic, then skillfully installed the new unit. I was so impressed by their knowledge, honesty, and care for doing the best work possible. After the work was complete, R&S made sure everything was to my satisfaction. I wholeheartedly recommend this company!

R&S did an amazing job installing a new heat pump heating and conditioning system for us. They are very knowledgeable in selecting and installing the system. We are more than satisfied with the outcome. Now we can control the temperature of the house from my cell phone, and switching between heating and cooling within minutes on the same system! The work was done with our needs in mind. Old pipings and wires were removed or replaced and cleaned up to ensure safety and elegance of the property. David, Jose and Frank did a great job installing the system and teaching us how to use it. Thank you!

Just wanted to say Thank you all for your hard work in getting my heater installed by Christmas. Everything is working great- it is so nice to come home to a warm house.

Susan B. of Carmel

Thank you for the great service!! I am loving the new HEAT! The work and service by Joe and Justin was excellent- so nice to have young men so nice, BUT the clean up was also excellent. Actually all of the service was GRAND…thank you and pass it on!

Cindy- Monterey

They have provided the best customer service that I have ever received. This is a family owned business. Rich Russo is the owner. I spoke with Janice, Rich’s wife, on the phone several times. His son Justin and another guy Joe Gallagher installed the system. Rich over saw everything. They first came and looked at everything and then they gave me an estimate. They gave me several options and explained my options to me with all benefits. I felt very comfortable making a choice and never felt forced to make a choice. They brought over space heaters since my heat went out until they could work me in. They explained everything they were doing and communicated very well with me. When they were finished with the job they did a terrific job cleaning up. They were respectful and polite. After the job was done, Rich gave me a binder with all the information of the unit I purchased. They told me to call with any questions. They reprogrammed the heater. I have never had this type of customer service.

Roger- Pebble Beach

Rich and his crew did an outstanding job. Professional, courteous, very knowledgeable, clean work place and on time to perform work.

Deborah- Carmel

I was extremely happy with the service. Bobby showed up on time, quickly diagnosed the problem and made the necessary repairs. He also thoroughly cleaned one of the units which is an old floor heater. I highly recommend this vendor.

Gary Reichhold

My contractor recommended Rich Russo, the owner of R & S Heating and Sheet Metal. My house in Del Rey Oaks was built in the early 1950s with a heater but with no air conditioning, so Rich came out and provided me with an estimate for an entirely new system. The work was done in a timely manner and the new system works to perfection. The state-of-the-art Google Nest thermostat is pretty cool too – I can control it remotely with my smartphone. I am very happy with my new improved system and I highly recommend the services of R & S Heating and Sheet Metal.
